Car wiring harness is the central nervous system used to connect car circuits, serving as a transmission carrier for various energy and signals. It is distributed throughout various functional components of the car and is the lifeline of the car's network. A connector is an electrical module or unit that connects wires or appliances, providing a convenient and reliable electrical installation interface for electrical connections. Connectors are usually divided into plug connectors and socket connectors, including compatible plug/socket terminals, plug/socket sheaths, as well as CPA structures, TPA structures, or PLR structures. Some seals may also have connecting accessories such as sealing rings or plugs. Of course, in addition to commonly used connectors, the wiring harnesses are also directly connected through U-joints or ultrasonic welding.

Classification of connection interfaces for automotive connectors
The connection interface between automotive connectors and the external environment is generally divided into terminal insertion connection interface, wire and terminal crimping connection interface, terminal and PCB welding connection interface, and insulation shell connection interface.

Terminal plug connection interface
As an intermediate component connecting wire harness units or electrical units, connectors serve as metal contacts for transmitting current or signals. They generally exist in the form of plug terminals and socket terminals, or are connected through bolt fastening hole terminals. The above connection provides a detachable connection called a terminal contact connection interface, which is generally a shape lock connection and a friction lock connection.

Terminal and wire connection interface
The terminals of a connector are generally connected to the wire connection unit, which provides a non removable connection interface, usually a friction lock connection or a material lock connection. For example, commonly used mechanical cold pressing and welding, mechanical cold pressing can be divided into open pressing and closed pressing.

Insert PIN terminals and PCB connection interface
The connector terminals are not only connected to the wires, but also to the PCB of the electrical appliance through the board end connector, forming a non removable terminal PCB connection interface. This type of connection interface is usually a material locking connection.

Insulation shell accessory connection interface
The connection protection of terminals requires insulation shells such as sheaths for protection. Different connection interfaces require different types of shell (sheath) accessories, and the connection of insulation shell accessories generates a shell connection interface. The connector terminals need to be first installed and fixed into the insulated shell of the sheath, and then a connection interface is generated through the locking between the shells, providing a reliable peripheral environment for the connection of the terminals. Due to the consideration of convenient installation and maintenance disassembly, it is required to have a detachable connection, which generally includes hook connection, CPA or threaded shell connection. This type of connection is usually a form lock connection interface.

The above four connection interfaces cover the general connection methods of connectors and external connections. The current connection method still belongs to wired contact connection, and the reliability of the connection is mainly ensured by strong and stable mechanical performance. The performance of various connection interfaces should comply with industry standards or enterprise standards, and the discussion should include the main technical requirements of each connection interface; Electrical connection requirements for terminals; Contact resistance or voltage drop requirements for crimping/welding; Performance requirements such as instantaneous interruption and temperature rise; Mechanical performance requirements for terminal and wire connections, pull-out force requirements; The connection between the shells must meet the mechanical performance requirements such as the strength of the self-locking device.

Understanding Automotive Connector Terminals

Terminal refers to a type of connecting component in electronic and electrical components, which connects conductors to receiving terminals in equipment or cables. Usually includes a set of metal bars that can provide wire connections for input, output, power, and ground. Due to its crucial role in circuit connections, it has a wide range of applications.
