In the production of connecting products, plastic materials are essential raw materials, such as PBT plastic material, nylon 66, 6T plastic material, 9T plastic material, LCP plastic material, etc. These five raw materials have different quality and temperature resistance, and their prices also vary. The material characteristics of these five raw materials are described below.

PBT plastic material
PBT plastic material is commonly used in the production of 2.54 pitch 180 degree/90 degree female connector products. The welding temperature of the plastic terminal housing is only around 200 degrees. Due to its low cost, high strength, and friction resistance compared to other materials, many customers still choose this material. But this material has poor formability, severe shrinkage, low melting temperature, and plastic melting during wave soldering.

Nylon 66
Thermoplastic resin. White solid. Density 1.14. The melting point is 253 ℃. Not soluble in general solvents, only soluble in m-cresol, etc. High mechanical strength, hardness, and rigidity. Can be used as engineering plastics. Rockwell hardness 108-118. The thermal deformation temperature (1814.11 Pa, 18.5 kgf/cm2) is 66-86 ℃. Used as mechanical accessories, such as gears and lubrication bearings; Instead of non-ferrous metal materials, it can be used as machine casings, automotive engine blades, etc. It can also be used to manufacture synthetic fibers.

6T plastic material
According to connector manufacturers, this material is typically used on 2.54 pitch SMD bus bars and 1.27 pitch/2.0 pitch series bus bars. The welding temperature is between 260-290 degrees, so the cost of using this material to produce busbar connectors is slightly higher. Choosing this material is generally a customer's quality requirement.

9T plastic material
The connector products using this material are mostly 2.54 spacing SMT busbar and 1.27 spacing/2.0 spacing series busbar. The welding temperature is around 260-300 degrees. Due to the high price of this material, when customers have special requirements, they usually use 9T plastic material to produce connector products.

LCP plastic material
Suitable for producing various spacing series of busbar connectors, with welding resistance temperatures between 260-320 degrees. This material has a small coefficient of linear expansion, low injection shrinkage, good strength and elastic modulus, excellent heat resistance, high load deformation temperature, excellent chemical resistance, and airtightness. Therefore, LCP material is the preferred choice for general connectors, especially those that require SMT.

The connector applications of LCP materials are more commonly used by manufacturers in the automotive industry. Because the price of this material is higher than other materials and the manufacturing process is also higher than the four processes, the customer group used is some special customers and product requirements.

Understanding Automotive Connector Terminals

Terminal refers to a type of connecting component in electronic and electrical components, which connects conductors to receiving terminals in equipment or cables. Usually includes a set of metal bars that can provide wire connections for input, output, power, and ground. Due to its crucial role in circuit connections, it has a wide range of applications.
