1.2.2 Terminal material selection

Common materials for connector terminals are: copper, brass, bronze. According to their hardness, they can be divided into three states: soft, semi-hard and hard. Among these three materials, copper is used less and is generally used for grounding hole or fork joints. Brass and bronze are widely used. Brass conducts electricity better than bronze, which is harder and more elastic than brass. Bronze should generally be used when terminal spring construction is used. Insufficient holding power often occurs with brass materials.

 Terminal mating interference

Terminal mating interference refers to the failure mode in which the male terminal and the female terminal of the connector are inserted into the non-effective area of the female terminal during the mating process, which causes the connector to lose function such as terminal retraction. Generally speaking, the reasons for terminal mating interference are: ① structural design problems; ② terminal insertion and withdrawal force problems.

 2.1 Structural Design Issues

The structural design problems of the connector that involve the interference of the terminals mainly include: the design problem of the center distance of the connector (including the wrong size or excessive tolerance, etc.), the design problem of the clearance between the terminal and the sheath (including the gap is too large or too large, etc.) small) etc. When there is a problem in the structural design, there will be misalignment of the male terminal and the female terminal during the mating process of the connector. When this misalignment occurs in the x direction (Figure 3), the male terminal will appear on the top of the surface B or on the surface C. , when the degree is relatively small, it will cause the insertion and withdrawal force of the connector to be too large, and when the degree is serious, it will cause the terminal to withdraw from the connector during the insertion process. When this kind of misalignment occurs in the y direction (Figure 4), there will be an undesired exposed part of the female terminal, and the male terminal will easily push against the exposed part of the female terminal. In severe cases, it will cause the terminal to withdraw from the connector during the insertion process.
