1) Insulation material

It is very important to choose which insulating material to choose when designing an electrical connector, and it often affects whether the insulation resistance of subsequent products can be stable and qualified. For example, a factory originally used acetaldehyde glass fiber plastic and reinforced nylon to make insulators. These materials contain polar genes and have high hygroscopicity. The insulation performance can meet product requirements at room temperature, but the insulation performance is unqualified under high temperature and humidity. Finally, the special engineering plastic PES (polyphenylene ether sulfone) material is used. The product has passed the humidity test of 200°C for 1000h and 240h, and the insulation resistance has a small change, which is still above 105MΩ, and there is no abnormal change. 

2) Poor sealing

Electronic appliances and wiring harnesses in the dry area are less affected by high temperature/high humidity and chemicals/dust. The wet area is just the opposite. If the seal is not good, it may cause water ingress to the electrical appliances and wiring harnesses, causing short circuit/corrosion of the internal circuit, etc., directly leading to malfunction Failure, which requires the connector inserts of the wiring harness to be sealed and protected. 

Unreasonable sealing structure design:

a. The compression amount of the sealing rubber ring is insufficient, the wiring harness is installed smoothly and sealed without problems, and the seal fails after bending;

b. Poor aging resistance and mechanical properties, long-term use of aging and cracking, resulting in seal failure, the radial seal structure is preferred in the design of the seal structure;

c. Condensation:

The interior of the connector is heated during work, and the internal air has a high water content. After stopping the work, the moisture in the air will be separated on the low-temperature surface due to the temperature difference, which will lead to insulation failure, especially the heat-generating component connector, such as the drive motor connector;

The air is mainly composed of dry air, water vapor and dust. Humidity usually refers to the content of water vapor in the air, and saturated humidity is the maximum amount of water vapor that can be contained in a unit volume of air at a certain temperature;

Saturation humidity is related to air temperature, the higher the temperature, the more moisture it contains. A relative humidity of 30% to 60% is more suitable for general electrical equipment. If the absolute humidity of the air is kept constant and the air temperature is lowered, the humidity in the air will reach saturation when the temperature drops to a certain value, and if the temperature continues to drop, the moisture in the air will precipitate. This phenomenon of liquid water precipitation is called "condensation". The dew point temperature is the temperature at which the relative humidity of the air can reach 100% under the premise that the moisture content and atmospheric pressure remain unchanged.
