Laser welding is to radiate high -intensity laser beams to the surface of the metal. Through the interaction between laser and metal, the metal absorbs lasers into thermal energy to melt the metal and cool the crystal to achieve welding. There are two mechanisms for laser welding:

1. Hot conduction welding

When the laser is irradiated on the surface of the material, part of the laser is reflected, and the other part is absorbed by the material. The light energy is converted into thermal energy and the material is heated melt. Welded parts are melted together.

2. Laser deep melting welding

When the laser beam with a relatively large power density is irradiated to the surface of the material, the material absorption of the light is converted into thermal energy, the material is heated and melted to vaporization, generating a large amount of metal vapor, and the melted metal under the reaction force produced when the steam exits the surface, the melted metal metal The liquid is squeezed around to form concave pits. As the laser continues to illuminate, the concave pits penetrate deeper. When the laser stops illuminating, the fuse around the pit is returned to the pits.

These two types of welding mechanisms can be selected according to the properties of the actual material and welding needs, and different welding mechanisms are obtained by regulating the welding parameters of the laser. The most basic difference between these two methods is that the surface of the former is kept closed on the surface of the melting pool, while the latter is penetrated into pores by laser beams. The conduction welding has less disturbance on the system, because the radiation of the laser beam does not penetrate the welding material, so the welds are not easily invaded by the gas during the conduction welding; the continuous shutdown of the small holes can cause the air holes. The conduction welding and deep melting welding methods can also be converted to each other during the same welding process. The transformation from the conduction method to the small hole method depends on the peak laser energy density and laser pulse duration of the peak of the workpiece.

Compared with other traditional welding technology, laser welding has many unique advantages:

1) Fast speed, large depth, and small deformation.

2) Welding can be performed at room temperature or special conditions. When the laser is through the electromagnetic field, the beam will not be offset, and the welding equipment is simple.

3) Laser can be welded in vacuum, air and a certain gas environment, and can be welded by glass or transparent materials through glass or beam.

4) Weldable difficulty melting materials such as titanium, quartz, etc., can be welded with heterosexual materials, and the effect is good.

5) After the laser focus, the power density is high. When the high -power device is welded, the deep width ratio can reach 5: 1, and the maximum can reach 10: 1.

6) Micro -welding can be performed. After the laser beam is focused, it can get a small spots, and it can be accurately located. It can be applied to the group welding of micro -and small workpieces in large quantities of automated production.

7) Welded parts that are difficult to approach, and implement non -contact long -distance welding. Especially in recent years, optical fiber transmission technology has been used in YAG laser machining, which has made laser welding more widely promote and applied.

8) Laser beam is easy to divert at time and space, and can perform multi -light beams and processing, which can provide conditions for more precise welding.

Because laser welding has many advantages above, it has been widely used in various fields such as automobiles, electronics, biomedical, mechanical manufacturing, and powder metallurgy. The most applied laser welding in the automotive industry is the welding of polymer workpiece and body coverage and structural parts.
